Microsoft Windows 10 Anniversary UpdateMicrosoft has announced their next major release, an anniversary update of their Windows 10 platform that brings some of the goodies they’ve been hyping into the mainstream.

The company hasn’t pushed anything as hard as they have pushed Windows 10, allegedly the last operating platform they are ever going to release. They are so gung ho about everyone of their customers making the switch that they have offered it for free for the past year. It will remain a free upgrade until July 29, when new customers will have to either pay for a copy, or purchase a new device running it stock.

Microsoft Xbox One SMicrosoft has unveiled their latest XBox One console, the XBox One S. The updated version fixes a couple of the issues that were previously brought up by gamers, and offers an intermediary device prior to the Project Scorpio release coming in 2017.

This is a move that will mean that different platforms will be able to connect more consistently between Windows Server and Linux. Linux is the most popular open source operating system and a number of business use Linux based servers.

SQL Server 2016 has been improved in a range of ways. Security encryption as been enhanced to allow data to be encrypted when still, in motion and in memory. Data warehousing performance as been improved. Employees will have Business Intelligence (BI) on whatever device they use (iOS, Android and Windows). New R support will allow customers to perform predictive analytics on operational and analytic data in real time. Cloud capabilities have been improved that allow customers to use hybrid architectures to partition data workloads whether they’re in the workplace or accessing information via the cloud.

Microsoft acquired SwiftKey in a reported $250 Million Deal

In Microsoft Acquired SwiftKeyIn a suprise move made today, Microsoft acquired SwiftKey, the software keyboard and its SDK. SwiftKey is used on over 300 million Android and iOS devices around the world. According to SwiftKey, the keyboard has saved nearly 10 trillion keystrokes, which translates to saving 100,000 years in typing time. Microsoft acquired SwiftKey for $250 million. SwiftKey was started eight years ago and never released a native app for Windows Phones.
