LG Optimus 7, a nice approach to Windows Phone 7

LG Optimus 7 E900After HTC, LG is the next mobile manufacturer that made a new mobile phone ready for the next generation of OS: LG Optimus 7. They are wiping off the idea about what they had previously when LG mobile phones meant java only phones with more app unfriendliness. After some successful Androids now they are showcasing the new lines of Windows Phone 7 devices which till now are not letting them down. The LG Optimus 7 is a meant for Windows Phone 7 OS having a 3.8-inches capacitive touch screen and a 1Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. Though this phone’s specs do not go with manufacturers phones, such as HTC, LG managed to run the giant Microsoft OS pretty smooth.

When speaking about its shape and look there should not be much to complain. It is a perfect shaped phone that keeps up with designs that other companies made for bigger screens. It has a professional look with elegant black color and metal battery cover. But there are few shortcomings in its design too. The first thing is the power button which is unreasonably small, but this may not be something very important for the users. And the second thing is the hard flap in front of the micro-usb port because is hard to be removed. In this case it’s not less used as the power button as you will have to charge this phone and connect it to the PC with this very port.

On the back the 5 megapixel camera features autofocus, LED flash and 720p HD video recording . That means if you want to get something better than this you should probably try to acquire a professional camera.

Now comes the OS and features part. Its locked screen is handy with the useful features like appointments, date and time, missed calls and new messages notification. But uniqueness of Windows Phone 7 starts when you unlock it. This first screen is called start screen and is full of hubs with live tiles. The number of hubs you can keep is unlimited and you can rearrange or scroll back and forth to them anytime you want.

A big lack of Windows Phone 7 is not having the capability to run third party apps in the background when doing something else. This thing questions the capability of multitasking when it has a processor and enough RAM(512 Mb) to run a PC OS. WP 7 has built in Windows Live Contacts and Facebook support, but no Twitter or MySpace integration yet. The number of apps in the marketplace is still below 500, but it is expected to cross 1000 before the phone comes to the hands of the consumers. Don’t worry, look on the bright-side because most of the big players in the field have already apps published there.

We didn’t forgot the connectivity features which are on trend with users requirements: 3G, GPRS, EDGE, Bluetooth 2.1, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n(DLNA), GPS, microUSB and 3.5 mm jack ports.

Though it may not be called the best Windows Phone 7 cell device, LG Optimus 7 will be a great competitor for that. It’s available worldwide from October 21 and can be bought even for free, if you plan to pay a higher monthly contract fee.
