IBM HeadquartersIBM has officially announced the next stage in their advanced cloud service, one that is based on a record breaking 20 qubit quantum machine, 15 qubits beyond their past incarnation.

The quantum computer cloud was already quite a leap in technology, offering 5 qubits for consumers for free. Now that early adoption has taken off, IBM is eagerly presenting their newest jump forward: an astonishing 20 qubit cloud that will be their first commercial quantum machine.

IBM has managed to develop world’s first 7 nm chip

IBM 7 NanoMeter ChipIBM has announced a working 7 nanometer node test chip with functioning transistors, an industry first from an area where the doubling of power was common for a fair few years.

The chip was created in partnership with GLOBALFOUNDRIES and Samsung at SUNY Polytechnic Institute’s College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (SUNY Poly CNSE) and is the size of a finger-nail. It’s potential uses include powering smartphones to spacecraft using more than 20 billion tiny switches.

Google, Apple, IBM top list of most valuable brands

Brandz Top 10 Most Valuable Global Brands 2014In a report commissioned by WPP’s BrandZ, a list of the 100 most valuable brands has been released. Right there in the top five are four tech brands that have managed to dominate the list.

Google, Apple, IBM and Microsoft take up the first four posts in that order. The steak of tech companies is then broken by the fifth spot, taken by McDonald’s.

Those aren’t the only technology specific companies that have taken a high position, however. Online marketplace Amazon is at #10. Tencent, a Chinese company that is the fifth biggest business in the world, has spot #14.

IBM released their 5 in 5 Technology Report for the next 5 Years

IBM HeadquartersThe fact that technology is advancing at such a rapid rate is a true testament to human ingenuity. The speed at which we are being propelled through this rabbit hole however is both astounding and frightening. Take a look back to about five years ago and think about what technology was like then. Heck, even about one or two years back you can still see major advances. So what does the future look like? Well IBM has predicted it for us so let’s have a look!

According to IBM in the next five years we will see the current budding technology explode into something that has a significant impact on our daily lives. These predictions were delivered in IBM’s annual “5 in 5” report which describes five different technologies that, according to IBM, have the potential to change our lives.
