Google Android 3.0 Honeycomb brings a lot of new features

Android 3.0 HoneycombOn Feb 2nd Google holded a press conference where they featured some of Android 3.0 Honeycomb features. The tablet used for this, was Motorola Xoom, which is now the first tablet that will use the new OS.

We begin and say that first of all there is a powerfully developed desktop appearance which makes navigation easy and smooth. On the bottom left of the home screen, there are back, home and multi tasking button. The multi tasking button, which is a new feature to Honeycomb, enables visual previews of recently used applications. On the bottom right corner of the home screen, there are icons for notifications of the system’s status.

With these entire multifunctional buttons placed at the bottom, the rest of the screen is dedicated for applications. “It’s not just a ware house full of apps” says Hugo Barra, director of PM in Android, “it’s an application development platform in itself.”

Motorola XOOM is the first Honeycomb Tablet and will be released in Q1 2011

Motorola XOOMMotorola XOOM is the first Honeycomb tablet coming on the market and was announced in January 5 at CES 2011. This little wonder took the full spotlight on itself with the key phrase, ‘the first tablet that run an OS which is optimized for the tablets’. Honeycomb is the 3.0 version of Android and Motorola takes the first place in releasing a Honeycomb tablet.

Can we call it a iPad killer? We can’t tell that now as popularity is not only dependent on features and processing powers. But when talking about comparing head to head, it of course is a killer and it kills the iPad mercilessly.

It comes with a 10.1 HD display with 16:10 widescreen aspect ratio, the biggest display available in that smaller form factor. It is powered by a dual core processor which provides 1GHz processing power at each core and is supported by 1GB of RAM enough to run anything a tablet should be able to do it very smoothly.
