CES 2017: Samsung is announcing Chromebook Plus and Pro

Samsung Chromebook Pro/PlusToday at CES 2017, Samsung has announced its new Chromebook range.  The two new models, the Chromebook Plus and Pro, step up the game for ChromeOS devices.

What’s Inside Samsung Chromebook Plus and Pro

The specs of the Chromebook Plus and Pro include a QuadHD 12.3-inch Gorilla Glass display with 2400×1600 pixel LED; 4GB RAM, 32GB of internal storage; MicroSD card slot; and 2 USB Type-C ports that support 4K video output and charging.

The processor for the Plus is an ARM-based chip. For the Plus model, an Intel Core M3 processor is inside. The processors have about 8 hours of battery charge, according to Samsung. The device weights under two and a half pounds with an all metal chassis.

A Laptop/Desktop With Decent Stylus

The hinge rotates 360 degrees and turns from a laptop into a tablet. The stylus that comes with the gadget works well with Keep and other apps. The on-screen inking is intuitive and guesses where you’re likely to move the pen next. The user has a smoother and more natural experience. Google will use information from the cloud to customise the writing experience for you.

Samsung Chromebook Pro/Plus Tablet StyleThis Chromebook goes up against Apple’s iPad Pro and Microsoft’s Surface. The hardware is decent, but whether ChromeOS is as restrictive as it has been will be the question. There are a lot of apps available on Google’s Play Store. The problem is, many seem like mobile apps more than desktop apps.

Note taking will be made quicker and drawing more accurate with the predictive technology. Developers will be able to access the predictive technology API in the creation of future apps.

“Since launching our first Chromebook over five years ago, we have continued to improve the product, developing a computer that not only fits into consumers’ lifestyles, but makes their lives easier, more mobile and more productive,” said Alanna Cotton, vice president of product marketing at Samsung Electronics America. “With the Chromebook Plus and Pro, we’re partnering with Google to pair a sleek design with supreme flexibility, encouraging users to experience more with Google Play and Android apps, while continuing to provide simplicity, top-rated security and shareability inherent in Chromebooks.”

Samsung’s Chromebook Plus will be on sale in February for $449. The Chromebook Pro has no price or release date set.
