Shot is the first Kickstarter project from William Viana and Jorge Leria, a pair of software engineers from a well known social network startup in Spain. Shot is an add-on for the iPhone 6 and 6S that gives users the ability to take 3D photos. The processing power and camera of the iPhone 6 and 6S is something that could make for some creative photos with a little abstract thinking.
The Shot is composed of two lenses to take in more of the surroundings than the iPhone 6/6S’s camera. The Shot slides on to the iPhone’s front camera. The team built a lot of prototypes to test different fisheye lenses and to make sure the lenses align with the iPhone’s camera perfectly. The iPhone 6/6S with Shot can take 360-degree photos and 235-degree video. Google Cardboard virtual reality headset or something similar will be needed to view the photos in 3D.
The app is the engine that works intelligently to achieve 3D photos. The user interface is setup similar to Instagram, so it’s likely to be familiar to many potential users. There’s the ability to discover and browse content from different users around the world and to share your photos and videos on a social networking platform. The aim of the app is to make possible the creation, watching and discovering of 3D photos and videos of your own and others.
The Shot kit comes with the lens, app and Google Cardboard VR headset. The Google Cardboard VR headset is a simple device, made from cardboard that the iPhone 6/6S slips into to give the viewer a different viewing experience.
The Shot something that excites me. I’m a keen traveler and seeing the sights of cities, natural environments and panoramic views found anywhere hits a spot inside. To be able to travel and share the beauty of the world with others or re-experience what I’ve seen. The Shot is something that anyone can use as well as being a powerful tool for photographers.
A range of packs is available on Kickstarter. The super early bird special of $55 for the kit isn’t available anymore. An early bird special of $70 for one kit is going quickly. The regular price for the Shot kit is $90 and for a double pack the cost $135.
