Motorola ATRIX 4G was displayed on 5 January by Motorola Mobility and AT&T at an event hosted at CES 2011. This device will be undervalued if you call it a smartphone only because the power it will bring to your pocket is equal to many home desktop PCs used till now. It comes with a dual core processor where both cores are delivering 1 GHz and together they will give you 2 GHz of processing power. If you want to call it a smartphone do not forget to add “world’s most powerful” before that.
Today the users expect from a smartphone the same thing they expect from a PC as these two devices are doing each other’s job so smoothly. The problem is that till now the processing power has remained a barrier between smartphone and a computer.
Motorola’s webtop application can run the full Mozilla Firefox 3.6 with full Adobe Flash support and can handle any rich graphics based site the PC can handle. With the laptop dock the users will be able to use a bigger screen to run the Android apps and get the full PC like experience. Multi-tasking should not be a concern as it will let you do multiple jobs similar to what you do in your desktop. You can continue your calls while attaching or removing your phone from the dock. There are two types of docks which can be used with this device: one is Motorola HD Multimedia Dock which has three USB ports and an HDMI port and the other is Motorola Laptop Dock which features an 11.6 inches screen, keyboard, a backup 36Wh three cell battery and stereo speakers. It’s the most portable and light weight laptop you can carry around which features such processing power like many of the currently existing netbooks in the market.
The memories of this device are also higher than any other smartphone in the market: it comes with 1GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage which is also expandable up to 48GB. This high profile specs will let you do as many tasks as you want to do on your smartphone together because at the same time you can watch a movie, browse with the full Firefox 3.6 browser on webtop, run an Android app and send or receive mails with this overpowered device. If you have an existing Citrix account you will also be able to enjoy the benefit of cloud computing. You will get access to Windows and office applications on Citrix XenDesktop besides a large number of applications like Google Docs, Salesforce.com or any other service you wish as you have the power of web in your hand with a very standard full featured browser.
The Motorola ATRIX 4G runs the 2.2 Froyo version of Android enabling you to download and use from over 100,000 games and apps which are available in the Android Market. It is also the world’s first smartphone which features qHD display which gives you high resolution at 24-bit color which will let you watch your screen in different light conditions.
Motorola ATRIX 4G will be available in the first quarter of 2011 to the AT&T customers. This is an AT&T and US exclusive phone.
Motorola ATRIX 4G looks great. But it will be available on Android 2.2 Froyo.. must be updgraded soon to Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
