Windows 8.1 Start Screen Surprisingly, earlier today Microsoft showed us at Computex 2013 some of the features of the upcoming Windows 8.1 OS.  It’s surprising because we’re just few weeks before Build Conference, where Microsoft will surely announce some interesting things(both hardware and software).

We all know that there have been more than a few complaints about Windows 8, which failed to impress to the extent that Windows 7 did. Some longtime users of the operating system are used to this, with versions usually alternating in quality, and every other release being a bust. Microsoft might have broken that pattern with the updated Windows 8.1, a new version of their latest release that is already getting much higher praise than the original.

Computex 2013: Intel Core 4th Generation Haswell Processors are official

Intel Haswell CPUToday at Computex 2013, Intel has announced their 4th generation of Core processors, codenamed Haswell. These CPUs will rule from now on ultrabooks, tablets and 2-in-1 convertible devices that give you a laptop when you need it and a tablet when you want it.

This new Haswell chip that is present on the fourth generation Core processors was adapted to change the traditional PC format. These new devices can be used as a computer, or taken as a portable tablet with a much higher battery life than any other Intel CPU to date. This will take the standby battery life from four days to thirteen, a huge jump in evolution from the company.

Intel Executive Vice President Tom Kilroy called the 2-in-1 format the “new norm” for computers, and pointed out what we have been seeing in the market today: that the traditional desktop PC is becoming a thing of the past.

Computex 2013: Acer shows off Iconia W3 tablet and Liquid S1 smartphone

Acer Iconia W3 TabletComputex 2013 kicked off the morning with some of the biggest brands in personal technology present. Among them was Acer, who brought along their new ultrabook tablet…with a less than stellar response.

Their new 8.1″ Windows 8 tablet is called Iconia W3. Dubbed as “one-handed” tablet by the makers, it is basically a really small laptop. It connects to a small keyboard that can be used with one hand if the owner chooses to do so.

It may seem like a simplistic explanation, but it is accurate. The entire tablet was designed with the same Atom Z2760 processor of other Acer products, but only 2GB of RAM and either a 32GB or 64 GB storage option. It has a 1280×800 resolution on its miniature screen, and a decent integrated Intel Media Accelerator 3650 graphics card. The screen was made to show off the new Windows 8 with its updated interface and new, tablet friendly features.
