Alcatel has announced a new smartphone, the IDOL 4S. The major selling points are its price and the Google VR bundle available with the IDOL 4S. Alcatel has put effort into this phone, attempting to stand out in a crowded field.
Alcatel IDOL 4S’s Specs
The hardware of the IDOL 4S is good for its price. The processor is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 octa-core (4×18 GHz + 4×1.4 GHz). Qualcomm’s Adreno 510 GPU supports 4K video capture and adds better graphical capabilities. There is 3GB RAM and 32GB storage available. The microSD storage can take cards up to 200GB.
Alcatel IDOL 4S’s display is designed to get the most out of the Google VR experience. The display is a 5.5-inch QHD (1440×2560) AMOLED display. JBL certified speakers add quality sound to the phone. The speakers feature Waves Audio technology at 3.6 watts. JBL headphones are included with the phone.
Camera and Battery
The camera has a Sony sensor, 16MP, and f/2.0 aperture. It can shoot in slow-motion, HDR, panoramic, micro-video and FYUSE 360. You can also take selfies without the need of a selfie stick. The front camera has an 84-degree angle wide lens and is 8MP. There is also a flash on the front facing camera. A nice addition.
The battery aims to last all day. Alcatel claim there is 13 hours of talk time or 40 hours of music playback. It takes about 90 minutes to recharge the IDOL 4S thanks to Quick Charge. NFC support enables mobile payment apps like Android Pay.
The OS is the Android M (6.0.1). The IDOL 4s will be compatible with Android N when it is released. A feature that makes the phone different is the Boom Key. This button can boost bass when listening to music, shoot photos, enhance clarity and loudness in calls and stream video with friends and online.
VR Bundle
The Google VR bundle is a major selling point. This is this the first Android to come with a Google VR headset. The IDOL 4S comes preloaded with 3D apps for you to explore.
The Alcatel IDOL 4S will be available for pre-order on the 15th July, shipped in August. The price is $349.99 for the VR bundle, 2.5D tempered glass screen protector, JBL headphones and an Incipio protective case for pre-orders. Officially, the phone is released on August 3rd for $399.99 in North America. Payment plans are also an option.
