Get Your Mod On – LG G5 Release Date and Specs

LG G5It feels like it’s been a while since a smartphone company feels like it’s created a phone that’s different. LG G5 takes something people do anyway and made it a standard feature. People like to add features to their devices, from helpful battery power to connecting to speakers for better sound. Every phone user is different and has different wants to what extras their phone has. LG’s G5 ability to add modules to the device recognises the simple fact that many smartphone users (Especially Android users) love customization.

The specs of the LG G5 make this a definite flagship model. The screen resolution is 1440×2560 IPS LCD capacitive touch screen with a 5.3-inch display. The size is 149.4 x 73.9 x 7.7mm and weighs 159g. The glass is Corning Gorilla Glass 4. The chipset for the H850 model is the Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 820, the CPU is a dual-core 2.15GHz Kryo and dual-core 1.6 GHz and the GPU is the Adreno 530 for the H850 model.

The H840 model has the QualcommMSM8976 Snapdragon 652, quad-core Cortex-A72 and quad-core Cortex-A53 and the GPU is the Adreno 510. The OS for both is Android’s v6.01 Marshmallow. Internal memory is a 32GB internal memory, with 4GB RAM for the H850 and 3GB RAM for the (H840). A microSD slot that can use microSD cards up to 200GB is a welcome addition.

The back camera is 16 MP (f/1.8) + 8 MP (f/2.4) with laser autofocus and LED flash. For video recording, the back camera is capable of 2160p@30fps, 1008p@60fps with HDR and stereo sound recording. The front camera is 8 MP (f/2.0) and can record video 1080p@ 30fps.

The battery on the LG G5 is a removable Li-Ion 2800 mAh battery. Now, this is where the modules come into play. Battery life is important to a lot of people who use their phone for apps that use a lot of power, or who spend most of their day away from somewhere to charge their phone. An add-on module takes the battery from 2,800 mAh to 4,000 mAh.

Extra sound comes from the LG Hi-Fi Plus. This is an external 32-bit DAC and amplifier combo. Bang and Olufsen collaborated with LG on this. For those who love to have extra sound, then the ease at which this module is added on will be a plus. What other modules are to be developed will come as a surprise.

The LG G5 is to be released on April 1st, with prices being announced later.
