Charge your phone anywhere with Plan V, the keychain mobile charger

Plan V Mobile ChargerA new keychain charger device is hitting Kickstarter, offering a convenient, last-ditch way to charge up your smartphone whenever it goes flat. That includes during emergencies, when you just don’t have access to any alternatives.

On the Kickstarter project page, the creators of this gadget tell the story of what sparked this idea. Co-creators Evan and Luke were traveling through Bogota Columbia as backpackers. After a string of bad luck, they were out on the streets at night, in the unfamiliar area, and unable to find their hostel. Their smartphones were dead, their backup batteries were also dead, and they didn’t know what to do.

The good news is that they eventually found the hostel and checked in safely. The better news is that they came up with an idea that very night to create Plan V, a device that would keep them from ever facing that situation again.

It is a very small (weighing less than 7 grams, and 4.5 cm x 1 cm 1 cm in size) keychain charger. It folds out to connect to your iPhone 5S or Galaxy smartphone, and gives it a “jump”. That is how they describe it, like jumper cables for your mobile device.

With this single jump, you can charge your smartphone with up to 4 hours of talk time before replenishing the charger’s backup energy source. Which makes it a great emergency device for those rare situations where you just need a little bit of juice until you get to something more stable.

I am personally very interested in this. About once a month, I forget to charge my phone before I head out for a long day away from home. Being the modern gal that I am, being without my phone for even a couple of hours feels like someone has disconnected me from my very soul. And no, I am not being overly dramatic…how else am I supposed to listen to podcasts while playing Kingdom Rush and commenting on the Twitter posts of people I will never meet face to face?

Alright, so I am spoiled, I am willing to admit that. But Plan V means I can be even more spoiled, and have a backup for those times I forget to plug in my iPhone before heading out the door.

Delivery isn’t set until March, but you should definitely take advantage of the project before it hits major production. They are offering the Plan V for a ridiculously low price. Plus, you are helping a couple of guys who had a good idea make something cool.
