Blackberry is facing some serious financial troubles that may possibly lead to a selling of the company. But they aren’t letting that stop them, as they release the BlackBerry Z30 smartphone, described by them as one of the best from the brand in a long time.
The Z10 was the first in this particular series, and it was well received but not the powerhouse that BlackBerry might have hoped for. The Z30 is their attempt at making a comeback in the high quality mobile phone industry.
Technical Specs
The screen will be a super AMOLED 5″ display that is slightly larger than other models in the genre that tend to lean more around 4.7″ inches. It boasts a fairly impressive 1280 x 720 resolution, with 295 PPI.
BlackBerry seems to have made a special effort in its capabilities, wanting it to match up against other brands like Samsung with their S4 Galaxy. The Z30 will have a Dual Core 1.7 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro Processor with QuadCore Adreno 320 GPU. It holds 2GB of RAM, and will have 16GB on-board storage with expandable microSD slot.
There will be two camera, with 8 MP in the rear and 2 MP in the front. It will have 1080p HD video recording and a 5X zoom.
You won’t be seeing a whole lot of innovation with the Z30, as it seems to follow the standard for the latest mobile phone released from other companies. With the iPhone 5s making major headlines with its lower price tag and high capabilities, this is unlikely to be enough to allow them to compete in the market as it is today.
Still, they are pushing it as a highly advanced model. In a press release this morning, exec Carlo Chiarello said:
The smartphone rounds out the BlackBerry 10 portfolio and is designed for people looking for a smartphone that excels at communications, messaging and productivity. Having apps like the full Documents To Go suite that comes preinstalled, together with its 5” touch display, the BlackBerry Z30 smartphone gives you a best in class productivity experience on the go.
Doesn’t sound much different than any smartphone being sold right now. But we will have to see if it impresses or not, once the price is announced and people see whether it will be worth it to buy a BlackBerry when the company is potentially going under.
I honestly think the iPhone 5S, and even the 5c for people who want a cheaper phone, are the way to go right now. Somehow I doubt BlackBerry have managed to improve on those models.
