AT&T Unveiled 5 New Android Devices: Samsung, Motorola, Pantech among them

News just came in today that AT&T Wireless will be releasing five all-new Android devices. Although the release of the Samsung Galaxy S II was expected to be the biggest hit since the first Galaxy S, word has come in that AT&T will bring in: the Samsung Captivate Glide, Pantech Pocket, AT&T Avail, Samsung DoubleTime, and Motorola Atrix 2.

Android 2.3 Gingerbread is expected to be included with all of the phones except for the Samsung DoubleTime. The DoubleTime comes preloaded with Android 2.2 Froyo. With the addition of these five new phones, both AT&T and Android OS hope to become the leaders of handheld technology.

Before we get too caught up in the moment, let’s take a look at the specifications of these devices.

The Motorola Atrix 2 has been announced and said to have “extreme power”, according to AT&T. What kind of power? Of course, like its predecessor, the Atrix 2 will support 4G data frequencies and speeds of up to 21 Mbps! The other specs are as usual: a 1GHz dual-core processor, up to 32GB of internal memory (with a micro SD card), a 4.3 qHD display, 8MP camera coupled with LED flash, 1080p HD video capture, etc.

Onto phone number two, the Samsung Captivate Glide. This phone features similar specs to the Atrix 2, however the screen is stuck at 4 inches with a Super AMOLED display. HDMI playback capability is also included with the Captivate Glide and VPN support. A 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 AP20H dual core processor is included as well.The Samsung DoubleTime is expected to be a lower-end Android device, but don’t underestimate it. This device comes with a built-in qwerty slide-out keyboard and 3G connectivity. The Samsung DoubleTime will have 260MB of RAM and a 600 MHz Qualcomm processor. As for the display, a 3.2” touch screen display with the option of 320 x 480 and 480 x 320 HVGA resolution.

Feeling a little discouraged Android fans? There are still two devices remaining on AT&T’s list. The Pantech Pocket features a 4” SVGA display with a 5MP camera with LED flash and HD video recording. You can also find a 512MB processor in the Pocket as well. Why are the specifications not as good as the Atrix 2 and Captivate? This particular phone is supposed to be a slim one, clocking in at 114.7mm x 78mm x 11.3mm. You can see it in the first photo of this article.

Finally, the remaining phone: The AT&T Avail. The Avail will be the second Android smartphone under AT&T’s GoPhone plan. The device has 512 MB of RAM, a 3.5in capacitive touch screen, 5MP camera, and Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Those are some pretty impressive specs considering that it is a GoPhone.

So what are we looking at here? The range is from the Moto Atrix 2, to the AT&T Avail. Whether you want to go pre-paid or under a 2-year contract, these phones have such a broad range in which AT&T ensures that one of these phones is right for you.
