Travis Kalanick UBERIn the midst of a number of controversies and a new business model, Uber CEO Travis Kalanick has officially resigned. But those who work for the amateur taxi service has protested, and want him back in the driver’s seat.

The Resignation

It has been a contentious time for Uber and for Kalanick himself. Earlier this year a sexual harassment lawsuit was opened by one of the companies employees. That sparked a flood of other complaints that exposed a culture of lacking professionalism, harassment to female employees, and other forms of discrimination that led to major backlash against the driving service.

Uber takes over a portion of Bing’s mapping tech in new deal

UBER DC OfficeCab-on-demand service Uber, which has been growing leaps and bounds in the last couple of years, has taken over a portion of Bing’s mapping assets. The acquisition, which includes around 100 Bing engineers, is an interesting move that shows a coming expansion from the transportation startup.

Uber works by allowing users to automatically post their location through their smartphone app. That location is sent to the nearest Uber driver, who arrive within minutes to drive the user to their necessary location. It is run through GPS mapping, which is crucial for the functionality of the service.

There has been some controversy over Uber in the last few months. Several drivers working for the ride-on-demand service have been arrested for rape, and the company has been quick to state that they will begin greater measures to ensure the safety of their passengers.
