Intel Coffee Lake new 8th Gen Core Chips are now official

Intel 8th Gen ProcessorsIntel has launched its 8th generation Core desktop chips, with six new Core chips announced. The Intel Core i7-8700K is the pick of the bunch, with Intel claiming it is the best gaming chip ever. Other chips announced were the i3-8100, i3-8350K, i5-8400, i5-8600K and the i7-8700. These chips are part of the Coffee Lake series.

Intel Core i3

The Intel Core i3-8100 and i3-8350K both have 4 cores/4 threads and no boost capabilities. The i3-8100 runs at 3.6 GHz with a thermal design power of 65, an Intel Smart Cache of 6 MB and isn’t unlocked. The i3-8350K has 4 GHz, Thermal Design Power of 91, a 6 MB Intel Smart Cache and is unlocked. Both i4 chips have memory support of two channels DDR4-2400.

Intel Core i5

The middle range cores are Intel Core i5-8400 2.8 GHz, has a maximum Intel Turbo Boost frequency of 4, and a Thermal Design Power of 65. The i5-8600K has 3.6 GHz, up to 4.3 capacity for Turbo Boost, a Thermal Design Power of 95 and is unlocked. The i5-8400 and the i5-8600K both have 6 cores and 6 threads, an Intel Smart Cache of 9 MB and memory support of two channels DDR4-2666.

Intel i7 Core Chips

The top of the range Intel Core i7 chips looks to take on AMD Ryzen offering. The i7-8700 has 3.2 GHz, a Turbo Boost of 4.6 GHz, and a Thermal Design Power of 65. The i7-8700K has 3.7GHz, a Turbo Boost of 4.7 GHz, a Thermal Power Design of 95 and is unlocked. Both Intel Core i7 chips have 6 cores and 12 threads, an Intel Smart Cache of 12 MB and Two channels DDR4-2666 of memory support. All the Intel Core chips have Intel Optane Memory Support.

According to tests, the i7-8700K offer a 25% raise for frames per second and multitasking ability (Like playing, streaming and recording a game) is 45% faster in comparison to the 7th generation chips.

“Architecture plus design, adding up to premium performance,” Anand Srivatsa, general manager of the desktop platform group at Intel said. “We are extremely excited to be able to offer best in class single-threaded performance and a significant leap in multithreaded performance in the same power envelope as our previous generation.”

Orders begin on October 5th and pricing of the Core chips is as followed:

Intel Core i3-8100 – $117

Intel Core i3-8350K – $168

Intel Core i5-8400 – $182

Intel Core i5-8600K – $257
