The specs and design of Samsung Galaxy S8 phone were leaked this week by the well known leak supplier Evan Blass. The display of the new device is bigger than the Galaxy Note. Another change is the loss of the navigation buttons from the Galaxy S range.
Inside Samsung Galaxy S8
The chipset that powers the next Samsung Galaxy S8 is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 or Samsung’s Exynos. The chips are different depending on the region. All the chips are designed with 10-nanometer fabrication methods. Regarding performance, the S8 is said to be 11% faster than the S7. The graphics processor is 23% faster, and energy efficiency is raised by 20%.
The screen on the Galaxy S8 is sized differently to other smartphones. There are two models – a 5.8 and a 6.2-inch, both with QHD Super AMOLED displays. The aspect ratio is 18.5:9. The usual standard aspect ratio is 16:9. Samsung incorporates its “edge” display technology into the S8.
The battery isn’t the biggest, especially considering how much power the display will use. The capacity of the Galaxy S8 is 3000mAh for the 5.8-inch and 3500mAh for the 6.2-inch. Hopefully, the increased performance and battery efficiency from the processor will make up for a low battery capacity.
The internal storage of the Galaxy S8 has a 64GB baseline. The device will have a microSD card slot with up to 256GB capabilities. There is 4GB of RAM just like the previous Galaxy S7 smartphone. The main camera has 12 megapixels, and the front camera has 8 megapixels. The focal ratio of both cameras is f1.7.
New Ideas
The main camera will come with some new features too. Users will be able to perform an OCR enabled web search of text from photos. The iris scanner from the Galaxy Note 7 will be next to the front camera.
Surprinsingly, the finger sensor seems to be on the back, like other Android devices. An HDMI dock will be available for the Samsung Galaxy S8. The dock will enable users to connect their device to a monitor to use with a keyboard and mouse. Samsung is releasing their personal assistant, Bixby. Samsung claims Bixby is better with multi-part instructions than Apple’s Siri or Google Assistant.
A plus for many will be the fact that Samsung has kept the 3.5mm headphone jack.
The price of the Samsung Galaxy S8 will be €799 for the 5.8-inch model and €899 for the 6.2-inch device. The S8 will be available on April 21st.
