HTC EVO Shift 4G will be announced at CES 2011 on January 9th

HTC Evo Shift 4G QWERTYOn January 4th HTC announced the release of a big product, EVO Shift 4G and this long awaited device will be available in the stores from 9 January. We all know what this date means, because it’s the last day of the Consumer Electronics Show(CES) 2011 and the EVO Shift 4G is going to be their last present to the consumers.

This successor of EVO 4G is a bit thicker than its predecessor because it features a comfortable slide out full QWERTY keyboard. The screen size is also reduced to 3.6 inches. Other significant characteristics of this device includes a 5 megapixel camera, absence of a front camera and 2.2 version (Froyo) of Android about which no announcement of updates has been made.

Till this date a lots of leaks have been found about this phone and after the official announcement made by the officials it seems that the leaks were quite accurate.

It really does have an 800 MHz Qualcomm® MSM7630 processor which is a little bit lower than expectation as the other competitors are now jumping into the dual core trend and the estimate of having 512 MB RAM is also true. A go0d thing of this processor is that is a lot better than its rivals because it is one of the new generation of Snapdragon processors. The performance was smoother than any other 800MHz processors out there in the market when it was running with the 2.2 version of Android. It’s also expected that this performance will step up if an update to Gingerbread for this phone is released.

The EVO Shift 4G has the capacity of HD video recording and playback along with other features like Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS with AGPS support, Stereo FM radio, digital compass and integration to all the major social networking sites like Facebook or twitter along with YouTube, Google Talk, Flickr and Picasa support. And surely it has the 4G function which entitles it; the WiMAX (WiMAX 802.16 e) connectivity along with Wi-Fi router capabilities and that makes no need to mention that this device also features Wi-Fi connectivity. Talking of sensors it has two of them, Accelerometer sensor and Proximity sensor which are now a ‘have must’ feature of smartphones. The Android is also not the stock one though it’s nothing unexpected and HTC Sense UI is used to customize the phone for optimum usability and comfort. Memory is expandable up to 32 GB via microSD card and a 2 GB card will be given with the phone. The 1500 mAh battery provides a decent battery life for this large screen and high powered processor. This successor of EVO also features Bluetooth 2.1 which is alright compared to today’s phones.

HTC EVO Shift 4G will be available for $149.99 with a two year contract, but the saddest part about this phone is the availability of it. It is a Sprint exclusive phone and there is no sign of releasing this phone in other operators. So if you want to use this phone and a die-hard EVO fan you will have to move to the only operator providing this phone, Sprint.
