Expanding the problem towards four other big mobile producers was not a smart choice for Apple and the time will surely prove that.

All four blamed companies filled press releases where they explained about their antennas and some(Samsung) claimed as “unacceptable” the decision of Apple. RIM made it clear that they are a global leader in antenna design and the they always avoided the designs like the ones Apple used on iPhone 4. HTC responded through a PR voice that they had just 0.016% users complaining about antenna issues. Nokia, one of the largest mobile producers ensured customers that they put antenna design on top of their priorities when they design a new phone.

Nokia

“Antenna design is a complex subject and has been a core competence at Nokia for decades, across hundreds of phone models. Nokia was the pioneer in internal antennas; the Nokia 8810, launched in 1998, was the first commercial phone with this feature.

Nokia has invested thousands of man hours in studying human behavior, including how people hold their phones for calls, music playing, web browsing and so on. As you would expect from a company focused on connecting people, we prioritize antenna performance over physical design if they are ever in conflict.

In general, antenna performance of a mobile device/phone may be affected with a tight grip, depending on how the device is held. That’s why Nokia designs our phones to ensure acceptable performance in all real life cases, for example when the phone is held in either hand. Nokia has invested thousands of man hours in studying how people hold their phones and allows for this in designs, for example by having antennas both at the top and bottom of the phone and by careful selection of materials and their use in the mechanical design.”

HTC

“Approximately .016% of customers”, Eric Lin, the company’s global PR and online community manager exclusively revealed to us before adding that “we have had very few complaints about signal or antenna problems on the Eris”.

RIM

Apple’s attempt to draw RIM into Apple’s self-made debacle is unacceptable. Apple’s claims about RIM products appear to be deliberate attempts to distort the public’s understanding of an antenna design issue and to deflect attention from Apple’s difficult situation. RIM is a global leader in antenna design and has been successfully designing industry-leading wireless data products with efficient and effective radio performance for over 20 years. During that time, RIM has avoided designs like the one Apple used in the iPhone 4 and instead has used innovative designs which reduce the risk for dropped calls, especially in areas of lower coverage. One thing is for certain, RIM’s customers don’t need to use a case for their BlackBerry smartphone to maintain proper connectivity. Apple clearly made certain design decisions and it should take responsibility for these decisions rather than trying to draw RIM and others into a situation that relates specifically to Apple.

Samsung

The antenna is located at the bottom of the Omnia 2 phone, while iPhone’s antenna is on the lower left side of the device. Our design keeps the distance between a hand and an antenna. We have fully conducted field tests before the rollout of smartphones. Reception problems have not happened so far, and there is no room for such problems to happen in the future.

The 4-inches touch screen is a Super AMOLED capacitive with 16M colors and 480 x 800 pixels, same as Galaxy S. Multi-touch, accelerometer, proximity sensor, digital compass,  swipe text input are all available. Some of you will say this will battle with iPhone 4 retina display, but is not a fair battle, Apple device has 640 x 960 pixels.

Captivate is powered by an ARM Cortex A8 1GHz processor and is an Android based phone. Android v2.1 comes installed, until Froyo(v2.1) will become ready to be used, along the usual Samsung TouchWiz 3.0 user interface.

With Android you can choose to install thousands of apps from the Android Market™ or use integrated social networking tools if you plan to stay updated with your virtual life. Internal memory has 16Gb(microSD card extension is available till 32Gb) and RAM has 512 Mb, enough to boost your mobile experience.

The camera has 5 megapixel and auto-focus, no LED flash, Geo-tagging, touch focus, face and smile detection come at supported features. Videos can be recorded at 720p@30fp. A VGA secondary camera is located on the front of the phone. Under the back cover, the 1500 mAh Li-Ion battery will want to last up to 750 h in stand by mode(2G).

As usual Samsung put connectivity in the top of his list and 3G, GPRS, EDGE, Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, microUSB 2.0 and GPS are all available.

AT&T announced that will start selling Samsung Captivate from July 18 and will cost an estimate $199.

Cellphones could not miss this and this year Samsung will release the first 3D phone, called W960.

The 3D phone will have an 3.2-inch AMOLED capacitive touch screen(16 M colors) with WQVGA resolution and will be featuring multitasking and TouchWiz 2.0 user interface. Other features: 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus, 3G, DMB-TV-tuner, Bluetooth 2.1 and microSD card slot.

Supported applications: Electronic Dictionary, Calendar, Currency Converter, Notes, Calculator, Alarm Clock, World Clock, Stopwatch, Subway Maps.

The special 3D feature will not need 3D glasses to be seen in action, but to activate it you need to switch on the dedicated 3D shortcut key.

Samsung W960 3D display phone is expected to hit stores from Korea within Q2 of 2010, but an estimated price has not been yet revealed.

The breath taking part comes at connectivity features. Bluetooth 3.0 is available with A2DP support along the standard GPRS, EDGE, 3G, Wi-Fi, microUSB. In a word, all-inclusive connectivity. Gps is available through A-Gps support and comes with Google Maps 3.0.

The Internet will be browsed with Samsung Dolphin Browser 2.0 which comes with Flash support, but lacks auto-complete address option.

The model we present today is Samsung B5310 CorbyPro, an updated version of the successful Corby phone.

The major news is that it supports Wi-Fi, Gps and comes with a sliding full qwerty keyboard, but still lacks on some features that we would expected to score better.

Announced by Samsung last year, the new released phone comes with a 2.8-inches resistive touchscreen with 16M colors and a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels.

The whole phone is made by plastic, has 15.8 mm thick and weights 135 grams so it doesn’t seem so heavy or large for our pockets. Above the touchscreen there is a videocall camera and the earpiece while on the bottom there are 3 buttons(Call, Back, End Call).

The left side of the phone host the volume rocker buttons while on the right side we will find a microUSB port, a camera shutter key and the Lock/Unlock button for the touchscreen. A 3.5 mm port jack is situated on the top of the phone.

Try to slide the phone to the left side and you will discover the QWERTY keyboard. The keys are arranged in 4 rows(top row includes numeric keys), every key is made by plastic and is easy to be pressed.

On the back of the phone there is a 3 megapixel camera equipped with 2x zoom and fixed focus. Photos have a maximum resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels and videos can be made in QVGA @15 fps. Under the the back case there is a 960 mAh Li-Ion battery that provides up to 8 hours of talk time and up to 560 hours of stand-by time. Under this cover is also the microSD card slot, which can support up to 16GB cards.

Connectivity comes very solid on this model and features 3G, GPRS, EDGE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1 and microUSB. Gps comes with built-in Gps receiver and a single application, Google Maps. The web browser is fast and supports java or flash applications as well as one finger zooming during the view of websites.

The choice is yours to choose it or not, but Samsung B5310 CorbyPRO is available in stores with an estimated price of $ 290.

B7610 it is a cool gadget for these days offering touchscreen technology and also a QWERTY keyboard, just in case you’ll want to remember how the keys feel under your fingers.

So the display is an Amoled resistant one with 16M colors, 3.5-inches and a resolution of  800 x 480 pixels. On top of the screen there is an ambient light sensor, a proximity one and a video call camera while right under there are three buttons(from left to right) Call, Menu and End Call button.

The right side hosts the camera button and the lock one while on the opposite side there are the volume rocker buttons and a button that let’s you switch between two different profiles.

Omnia Pro is powered by  a Samsung S3C6410 800MHz processor(+graphic accelerator) and 256 MB RAM while Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional is the operating system. TouchWiz is the user interface used by Samsung and multi-tasking is also available.

Connectivity offers GPRS, EDGE, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, microUSB port and Tv-Out as features. Gps is available through A-Gps support, but unfortunately comes only with a trial application from Google Maps.

Internet browsing is great because you can choose either Opera Mobile 9.5 or IE Mobile version, both having flash support.

Phone is available from September in stores with an estimated price of 500$.
