Samsung Galaxy S III comes with a new design and a faster processor

Samsung Galaxy S IIIIn a fabulous event which took place in London earlier this week, Samsung unveiled one of the most expected smartphone of the year: Galaxy S III.

It’s loaded to the gills with all of Samsung’s goodies and it’s about as state of the art as you can get from this company. So far fans are practically knocking each other over for these phones and for good reason. First there was so much hype that people almost got to thinking the Galaxy S III could alter the course of the Earth.

Well to keep matters in perspective, the design of the Galaxy S III is just what the doctor ordered. It’s thin and sleek and brushed plastic. You can get it in the colors of Marble White or Pebble Blue.

You’ll see it has dimensions of 136.6 x 70.6 x 8.6mm and a 4.8 inch HD Super AMOLED screen. A screen the fans say is just astonishing in color and performance. Actually it looks like a small pad. Just the screen alone is worth buying the Galaxy S III. +Continue Reading

Samsung kills Nokia after 14 years and becomes world’s biggest phone maker

SamsungStrategy Analytics announced that their research indicates Samsung has ousted Nokia as the world’s biggest mobile phone manufacturer. It was as far back as 1998 that Nokia had toppled Motorola for the number one spot, and now in the first quarter of 2012 Samsung has done it to Nokia, 93 million units to 83 million.

As if this weren’t enough, Samsung raked in its biggest profits in the past 4 years. Imagine, $4.5 billion as of March 31, 81% above last year. Not that it’s any consolation, but Samsung also holds the top world ranking for TV’s and flat screens.

Samsung admits that they expect their earnings to continue exponentially with the same momentum it is currently showing, since they have the competitive advantage. This comes from Robert Yi, Samsung’s head of investor relations. +Continue Reading

Rumour has it: Samsung Galaxy S III

Samsung Galaxy S III PrototypeSamsung did not launch the Galaxy S III at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona as was expected by many, but there have been rumors they will next month. While the company has downplayed these rumors, they have admitted it will be in the first half of this year closer to the availability of the Galaxy S III. Perhaps Samsung’s media event in Paris on 22nd March will be the magic date.

ZDNet Korea claims Samsung is planning itself known at the 2012 London Olympics, in April. However, Samsung has directly denied an April appearance of the Galaxy S III. They indicate it will be revealed closer to its availability date. However, it is clear Samsung is playing games with the public appetite for information and anticipation of the next gen Galaxy phones. They did promise to reveal the date at least once on Twitter already. Another rumored date was in May, without corroboration.

Regardless of the exact launch date, this is good marketing strategy. While the buzz has died out about devices paraded around at the MWC 2012, there is no end to the talk about Samsung’s Galaxy S III. +Continue Reading

Apple wants to change patent license rules

Apple LogoAlthough Jobs confessed he wanted to obliterate Android for duplicating Apple’s inventions, Apple is now seeking clarification regarding interpretation of how industry critical patents are managed.

In a letter reported by the Wall Street Journal, to the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), Apple requested consistency and transparency in the process of applying intellectual property licensing rules.

Samsung and Motorola are Apple’s chief concerns, due to a joint suit focusing on “essential” patents. The letter from Apple has already been posted on the Foss Patents blog. Fraud principles comprise the body of the argument. These pertain to the licensing agreement of key technologies of any commonly acknowledged standard. Examples include MP3 and 3G, the licensing of which is tied to fair, reasonable, and terms that are without discrimination. Any companies that enter into this agreement by signing, cannot exclude anyone from taking advantage of their creation, if they receive a fee that is not excessive. +Continue Reading
