WWDC 2010 conference begun today, and Steve Jobs had a keynote where he presented the past and the future of Apple.
More than 1000 Apple engineers will attend at the event scheduled between 7 and 11 of June at Moscone West, in San Francisco, California.

The event begun as usual with numbers, huge numbers recorded by Apple: 2 million iPads sold, 5 million books downloaded, 15.000 new apps submitted each day and 95% accepted, 5 billion downloads and $ 1 billion paid to developers. Another big news for book readers is that PDF(viewer/reader) is now available at the iBooks section. Three major new apps were presented than: Netflix, Guitar Hero and Farmville.

Than, the major announcement was made: iPhone text appeared on the screen and so the next Apple phone will be called iPhone 4 and not 4G or HD as we were supposing. The shape and some of his specs were seen before, thanks to an Apple developer who forgot the device in a bar and Gizmodo.

The new Apple gadget has the designed well reshaped with stainless steel banding around the sides and a glass front+back. Steve was glad to say that iPhone 4 will become one of the thinnest smartphone on the market(having just 9.3mm).

On the left side of the phone we have now three metal buttons: two for the volume and one is the mute button. MicroSIM slot is hosted on the right side of the phone. Above the screen there’s the 3.5 mm headset, a microphone and the On/Off button, while at the bottom is the usual microphone, a 30-pin connector and the speaker. Near the earpiece, a VGA camera(30 fps) will finally give us the chance to videochat with other users.

The display made a big leap forward and as Steve Jobs claimed seems to be one of the gorgeous ever made. Retina display means a 4x increase of the pixels that 3GS had. The retina display has now 326 pixels per inch and managed to deliver an unbelievable experience on a 3.5-inches screen with 960 x 640 resolution and 800:1 contrast rate. Everything on the display is 4x times better than 3GS model, we’ve putted a comparison photo to understand better.

Along the accelerometer, compass and proximity sensor, a three-axis gyroscope is now available. The new 6-axis motion sensing system will be perfect for gaming on an iPhone 4 device.

At the back of the phone is a 5 megapixel camera that comes as well with LED flash, backside illuminated sensor, 5x digital zoom and tap to focus. In order to achieve a high quality, Apple kept the size of pixel sensors from 3GS model and now camera captures more photons. Another cool feature of the 5 megapixel camera is HD video recording.

Videos can be recorded in full 720p(HD) at 30 fps and tap to focus, built-in-video editing, one-click sharing or the LED flash will be there to help you. More than that, iMovie app will deliver you the tools to create movies or video postcards by inserting your favorite selection of videos, music, photos.

iPhone 4 be featuring a quality set of connectivity options: GPRS, EDGE, 3G, Wi-Fi(b/g/n), Bluetooth 2.1, USB 2.0 port and GPS. Internal components are also changed: the battery is bigger, the processor is the A4 made by Apple, but the flash memory remains the same(16Gb or 32Gb). The browser is expected to be Safari 5, but no announcement has been made during this event.

Each phone will have the fourth iPhone operating system version which now is called iOS 4 and will be featuring: multitasking, folders, iAd, Retina Display integration, unified inbox and threading in Mail, lots of enhancements in camera and photos, deeper enterprise support, and tons of new features everywhere.

Steve Jobs keynote ended with a demo where he could test the last feature called FaceTime video calling. FaceTime is an app that requires Wi-Fi(for now) and one of the two cameras to enable video calling between two iPhone 4 phone users. In the future it is expected that video chat calls will be enabled on any kind of phone device, but this is a matter left to discuss with cell phone carriers. During calls you can switch views between front or back camera and between and share the entire view and sound to your call friend(landscape or portrait mode also supported).

At the end let’s not forget the colours(White and Black) and the pricing which will be $199 for 16GB or $299 for 32GB.

Apple’s iPhone 4 will be released on June 24th, but pre orders will start from June 15th and by the end of September a total number of 88 countries will get it delivered.

Over 5000 developers will participate in what it seams to be a main event this year for tech world.

As we were used to, since 2007, Apple announces the next iPhone version in June, so we think this is the perfect time to unveil the next generation of iPhone. Don’t forget this is the first iPhone which leaked before it’s release date and some of his rumored features are: 5 megapixel camera, improved display, videochat conferencing, HD recording, microSIM slot, 512 Mb RAM and a bigger battery.

The event is running from June 7 to June 11 and will focus on unveiling latest innovations for developers: Application Frameworks; Internet & Web; Graphics & Media; Developer Tools and Core OS.

At the same event, Steve Balmer is rumored to present the next release of Microsoft Visual Studio 2010, that appears to allow developers to write native applications for the iPhone, iPad and Mac OS.

Apple engineers will deliver over 100 solutions-oriented technical sessions and labs. WWDC 2010 gives an incredibly diverse community the opportunity to connect with thousands of fellow iPhone®, iPad™ and Mac® developers from around the world.

Apple ignited the personal computer revolution with the Apple II, then reinvented the personal computer with the Macintosh. Apple continues to lead the industry with its award-winning computers, OS X operating system, and iLife, iWork and professional applications. Apple leads the digital music revolution with its iPods and iTunes online store, has reinvented the mobile phone with its revolutionary iPhone and App Store, and has recently introduced its magical iPad which is defining the future of mobile media and computing devices.

Have you ever wonder why Apple CEO, Steve Jobs hates Flash(Adobe) so much? We haven’t done this till now, but we think is something strange between two big names.

All started in 2007 when Apple launched iPhone mobile device and same time with him, the iPhone OS. From the beginning they refuse to comment about any Flash support or things related to it, but few years after it seams they couldn’t resist and say directly: we do not allow Flash on iPhones, iPods and iPads.

Apple made a clever move in 2008 with iTunes, which became the unique place to download official apps for Apple gadgets. Unofficial Apple blocked any third-party software from running unless you hack(“jailbreak“) your iPhone that could destroy your warranty or even ruin the device. At that time they claimed they are doing this(iTunes) for a reason: to have secure apps, free from viruses , spam and malware.

This was maybe a real basis, but they forgot to tell us that almost every download will cost money and Apple will only have to gain from this move. It was simple to understand that if you want to use/own an iPhone you either have to “jailbreak” it on your own risk or you have to buy apps and other stuffs from iTunes.

For developers wasn’t also easy to make apps for Apple as soon as they have the right to accept or refuse any soft product if it doesn’t comply with their rules. Strange apps as Wobble iBoobs, Baby Shaker which were considered a little sexy or violent appeared on iTunes while apps which involved public figures, even if they were used in comic books, were denied.

Same story happened after iPad release which is also locked, so you can’t use third party apps, even this is a tablet, not a phone. Let’s not forget the microSD card extension made unavailable on all Apple devices.

In a poor world where you could feed a whole country with 1 mil $, Steve figured out how to be more selfish and make more and more money. The recent “innovation” was announced during iPhone 4.0 OS and was named iAd. It’s easy to figure out from the name what this means->ads on iPhone. Steve told us the bright side-it would be an outstanding experience. This will be surely a plus for Apple and developers of the ads, but a minus for other ad platforms which use flash and can’t provide their services properly.

At the end of iPhone 4.0 OS press event, Apple allowed a little Q&A session with journalists, where Steve Jobs also participated. During the meeting one of the question was:

Is there going to be any change in Apple’s position on Java or Flash on version four?

and the response was short and easy to guess

NO

This was the point where everyone started to ask how could this not be possible and weeks after Apple couldn’t resist anymore and release a letter called “Thoughts on Flash” signed by Steve Jobs itself.

Letter was full of accuses :

Adobe Flash is not an open source as HTML, CSS and JavaScript are.

The lack of Flash doesn’t affect so much the users, because H.264 is more modern than Flash and is viewable on Apple products.

Apple accused Flash for reliability, security and performance saying that Flash is the reason that cause Macs to crash.

Flash drain battery when playing videos while the modern decoder, H.264 can play them for a long period.

Flash was created for PC and it needs to be modified in order to run on touch devices, but once again Apple wants to use modern technologies like HTML5, CSS and JavaScript.

This intelligent move seeks to somehow lay low Adobe Flash, but if Apple can resist Adobe(Flash), we are not so sure it will resist Google(Chrome) or Microsoft(Silverlight) platforms.

Final interesting thing is that Google announced Flash to be available on Android 2.2 version, which will be released during 2010, while Apple could face antitrust investigation(for iAd platform and Flash).

At first we couldn’t knew if there were fake or true, but few time after the shock news appeared on Gizmodo: iPhone 4G was found abandoned or lost on a bar in California atMarch 18.

Every little tech or related blog took the news and expanded through the whole world. It was very strange because Apple never leaked a device again and they have a very aggressive policy to hide their device before launching dates. But every little thing has a beginning so now thanks to an Apple employee and Gizmodo crew, who paid $5000 to get it, we have the look and some specs of what it seems to be Apple 4th generation of iPhone.

The design idea is the same, but now Apple added squared edges and metallic buttons:

on the left we have the volume buttons and a camera shutter key(we think).

on the right side is the micro-sim slot.

at the top of the phone we have noise cancellation mic, power button and jack port.

at the bottom is the mic and 2 speakers.

Screen is a little than the previous model, 3GS, but with higher resolution. In the top side of the display, near the earpiece now takes place a video chat camera and on the back the performances were improved by adding LED flash. Also the back has now a plastic cover for better signal reception.
For the internal components Gizmodo reported that there are very fit and the battery is bigger than previous phones.

Now let’s get back to the saga – After seeing that the iPhone was lost, Apple immediately blocked it and now, days after they reclaimed it by sending an email to one of Gizmodo editors.

It’s interesting to see if Steve Jobs or Apple will issue a press release about this subject or more likely we’ll see in summer if this is the real or the fake 4th generation of iPhone.

What everybody expected is now confirmed by Steve Jobs itself: multitasking will be supported soon on all Apple devices.

Like usual the event started with some updates: 450.000 iPads had been sold, 3.5 million times an iPad app had been downloaded till today and the number of total apps in AppStore reached 185.000. Next we go to iPhone, which sold out in almost 50 million units.

Now let’s see the “developer preview” for iPhone 4.0 OS. It seams it will be released this summer and contains over 1500 new APIs and 100 new user features.

Dear, Holy Multitasking…might say some of Apple lovers, this is finally a dream come true and now we can execute more than one action, same time on our iPhones. The demo seems flawless, Steve showed us he can surf ebay, play a game or check his mails. Each action it’s stopped when another launches in, but you can switch back to it without a problem, the multitasking tray can be accessed by hitting the Home button. He explained that Apple managed to implement the multitasking feature preserving battery life and performances.

We told you there are over 1500 new APIs through this OS update and Apple presented 7 of them:

-Background audio feature show us how Pandora app can play in background without interrupting you doing other things.

-Voice over IP featured Skype app and we found out that we can receive calls or updates on our iPhones even if they are locked. A red bar will appear in the top of the phone to remind that you are still in a call.

-Background location will update the status of your location so each time you will change your position the iPhone will wake up and update it. On the status bar an arrow will be added to indicate each time an application will ask your location.

-Push Notifications

-Local Notifications will appear on the screen each time we perform an action(eg. when you connect the iPhone to TV).

-Task Completion was presented through Flickr’s file upload. We can continuously upload photos on our account in the background even if we switch away from this action.

-Fast app switching one of the most expected feature will let us switch through the apps, storing the state of each running app and then resuming one of them.

Mail service has been optimized also and now we can use an unified inbox, multiple exchange accounts, fast inbox switching, threaded messages or open attachments with apps.

Another good thing is that Games or Apps can now be selected and put into folders. You can have unlimited folders on the menu and they will act just like an icon. So now from 180, you can have 2160 apps.

Games will contain several features: social gaming network, invite friends, matchmaking, leaderboards and achievements. It seams they want to get near the PS3 or Xbox customers.

iBooks option, released on same time with the iPad will be also on the new iPhone 4.0 OS.

iAd is there to make a challenge for Google Ad-Sense and Steve Jobs boys felt that there is a “bread to eat” in this section. The bad news is that the ads will be placed inside apps, even if they say that this will be a mix of emotion + interactivity and won’t redirect you towards that ad destination. Apple says they will sell and store this ads and give to developers 60% of the revenue.

Each time you click an iAd, you will expand it to the screen, but an “x” will appear if you plan to go back to your app.

It will be available on iPhone 3G, 3GS and iPod Touch 2-and and 3-rd generation, but the 3G model and the 2-and generation of iPod Touch will not support multitasking. For the iPad it will be released later this year.

Enough for the moment, the new iPhone 4.0 OS version will be out sometime this summer, but still we didn’t find out anything about the 4-rd generation of iPhone.

Today it is the time to present you one of the most expected mobile phone this year: Apple iPhone 3GS. There are a lot of things to discover, so our hopes are to catch them all in this review.

When Apple announce it, the main word describing it was Speed, maybe this is the reason for 3GS name. The new iPhone is equipped with a 600Mhz ARM Cortex A8 processor and have 256Mb RAM internal memory. Along with speed, the smartphone comes with the latest 3.0 iPhone OS and his 100 new features.

Display

The display is the same from the previous model, 3G. It has 3.5-inch widescreen Multi-Touch display with 480-by-320-pixel resolution at 163 ppi and it is very resistant(check youtube if you don’t believe).

Camera

The new phone comes with an improved 3 megapixel camera with autofocus and video recording @30 fps. Whenever you want to use the camera, you tap with your finger to do desired operations: tap where you want to focus or for taking the picture, double-tap for zoom in/out. When you rotate the phone, you will be able to take pictures in landscape or shoot videos in portrait/widescreen(if you use video recording). Videos can easily be edited with your finger of course, dragging the start and the end of the recording.

Maps and Compass

3GS comes with GPS and built in-compass so now it is almost impossible to loose your orientation. You will use Google Maps every time you need to go to a new location, find out traffic info or discover you current location. Along with the maps, in Google application you will discover a digital Compass which will help you to see the exact GPS coordinates along with the option to toggle between true North and magnetic North.

Voice Control

With the new Voice Control you are able to make calls, choose songs and so on. You just have to hold the Home button and than iPhone recognize your language and choose what to do next. How could be easier than this?

Keyboard and Messages

The 3.0 version of iPhone O.S brings another cool feature. The intelligent keyboard is now available also when you rotate the phone and switches to a larger one in landscape mode. You can write SMS, MMS with your own finger with characters from your own language and if wanted with word prediction.

Web Experience

Safari, one of the fastest mobile browser is the one that iPhone 3GS uses. You will get the best Internet experience as long as you can zoom in/out, bookmark and view in landscape all your favorite pages. If you want to use e-mail, there is no problem, iPhone works with popular MobileMe, Yahoo! Mail, Gmail, Hotmail, Aol without no problem. You can even download the attachments that contain pdf, doc, ppt, xls, jpg extensions.

Ipod feature could not let us down even here. The 3.5-inch Multi-Touch display is perfect to display your videos and scroll through your favorite songs as you were used to in Apple devices.

Another cool feature is the cut, copy and paste one. With a simple tap you can select and paste words, images, videos from the web or just from your phone. If you make any mistake, just shake the phone and the action will undo.

Connectivity steps in with following options: GPRS, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1 and USB 2.0. The battery is an built-in rechargeable lithium-ion one that can last over 12 hours in talk time, 300 hours in stand by mode, 9 hours on Internet use and from 10 to 30 hours when using video or audio playback.

The phone was released this June in USA and will be released in July for the rest of the world having 2 colors (black or white) and 2 versions. The estimated price for the 16GB model is 199$ and for the 32GB one-299$ on AT&T contract.

Thank you Apple!
