Amazon’s Tablet Captures Big Magazine Publishers

Rumoured Amazon TabletPublishers of magazines were elated thinking of selling their wares on iPad in 2010, but as we turn the page of the calendar and face this year, they are singing slightly off key. Their optimism has boiled dry. While they are still eager, there is a strong vein of skepticism that carries over to Amazon’s tablet(rumored to be called Kindle Fire). Mostly it is due to how Apple managed the negotiations with the publishers. Apple played the dictator to start and nearly lost everyone. It is no surprise now that publishers are a bit reticent in the next big deal.

There are currently only three of the largest magazine publishers on board with Amazon as it faces releasing its own iPad knockoff. The digital sales deals are between Amazon and Hearst, Conde Nast, and Meredith. They will be allowed the rights to sell their publications on the Amazon tablet. +Continue Reading

Tablets are Reducing their Prices to Boost Sales

Tablet PriceAs you and millions of others have witnessed, tablets are being released like crazy. In a market saturated with different types of smartphones, tablets, notebooks and laptops, it becomes rather difficult for a new gadget to draw the attention of all the potential customers.

Even though there are several ways to get the attention of the target audience, perhaps the oldest and most effective way is by cutting down the price. This can come very much in handy, especially because the market’s leader happens to be Apple. Everybody knows that Apple devices – in this case, let’s refer specifically to the iPad – are not the most affordable ones. Therefore, it would be only expected to see their competitors trying to slash down the prices of their tablets and gadgets.

When taking the iPad as an example (and as a starting point of competition), competitors are looking at a price of $500 as reference. This means that they need to bring down their prices from there. +Continue Reading

Amazon, the largest non-iPad Tablet supplier

Amazon TabletNo one’s quite sure what Amazon is up to, but the bets are on the release of two full tablets. It is quite possible we will see the shipping of more than 1 million tablet PC’s from Amazon.com in September, which launches it into first place as the largest supplier of tablets that are not iPads. In addition, Amazon is rumored to be ordering 2 million touch-panel displays between August and September.

This certainly comes as a huge surprise. Amazon has no indication on their site of preparing any kind of tablet product, Rather, they have invested their energies into the promotion and sales of their e-readers, the Kindle and Kindle 2.

If Coyote and Hollywood (the code names for the anticipated tablets) are real, they would both have Nvidia brains. BGR tech site suggested the dual-core Tegra 2 would provide the backbone to the Coyote tablet. Meanwhile, Hollywood would be the bigger brother, with a quadcore T30 Kal-El CPU. In effect, it would run 5 times faster than the Coyote. These are still just rumors, of course. +Continue Reading

HP TouchPad not so great as the iPad, but still has Potential

HP TouchPadEven though there were millions anticipating the release of the HP TouchPad, many didn’t expect it to be not great. The first webOS tablet is just not cutting it, worse if compared to the iPad, which has been successful since its release.

Starting with the bad reviews that the TouchPad has already generated, we will start by mentioning that this device is heavy and falls behind when running different apps. And by mentioning apps, we ought to say that there aren’t too many where to choose from. The truth is though, the TouchPad when compared to other tablets in the market, it doesn’t make much difference. The specifications and details on most of them are rather similar.

The battery doesn’t last as long as the iPad either. In general, the iPad might juice up about 10 hours from its standard battery. In comparison, the TouchPad is able to do only 6 hours. +Continue Reading

Hackers managed to Jailbreak iOS 5 Beta short time after the Release

Apple iOS 5It seems that these last few months have been hacker months. This time the victim is Apple – once again – with their latest iOS. Allegedly hackers were able to jailbreak the newest iOS version in less than 24 hours after it was released in beta mode.

Before discussing about this we have to say that iOS 5th version was announced at WWDC 2011(along iCloud) and has more then 1500 new APIs for developers and a total of 200 new features for its users. It was a necesary update and it seams that this time Apple made the right move and corrected some of the issues that users were experienced problems with. During the WWDC keynote, Apple featured 10 of the iOS features: Notification Center, Newsstand, Twitter, Safari, Reminders, Camera, Mail, PC Free, Game Center and iMessage.

The group that perpetrated the iOS 5 hack is known as iPhone Dev Team, and they made it known through their Twitter account that they had successfully jailbroken the brand new iOS 5. According to the group the OS is vulnerable to limera1n, which is the popular jailbreak technique that releases iOS 4, 4.1, and 4.1.2. +Continue Reading

Vocabology: An Educational iOS App

Vocabology AppMany of us have probably tried to expand our vocabularies by reading a book or playing crosswords puzzles. Although the second option might be more fun than the first, chances are you’re give up halfway through the puzzle.

A new app for iOS 4.0 compatible devices can be the next best thing when it comes to helping you learn new words to enhance your current vocabulary. The app is called Vocabology and luckily it is free of cost. It has been well received among most users because it combines words that are pulled from the Merriam-Webster dictionary and also words from the Urban Dictionary.

One of the many cool things of this app is that it challenges the user to really learn the word by testing them with different quizzes and applying the new words in the social media world. This pushes the user to apply the new words in sentences, making it more of an everyday thing rather than a one-time challenge.

Vocabology also provides the user with new words in German, French, Portuguese, and Italian which can make it a lot more fun and interesting. +Continue Reading
