Apple decided to make a compromise with their Advertisers

Often times consumers only see Apple and Google (or Android actually) battling it out for the top smart phone, however there is another war that is being waged between the two that goes unnoticed by consumers; ads.

You see, on top of making a massive profit off of the devices that they sell, these companies also integrate ads into their apps and other features of the devices so that they can generate more revenue. Advertising companies understand the value of being exposed to such a large group of people so they will often pay an arm and a leg to get in on the advertising programs for mobile devices.

So what exactly is the war going on you ask? Well, Apple decided to up the prices that advertisers had to pay to be included on their devices while other companies, such as Google, kept the fees that advertisers had to pay rather reasonable. +Continue Reading

Verizon’s Galaxy Nexus Phone will lack Google Wallet

Verizon Google Galaxy NexusVerizon is blocking Google from the carrier’s version of the Galaxy Nexus, set to be released next week in US. Although Google assisted Samsung in the phone’s development, the search engine giant’s mobile payment system will not be functional on Verizon’s version of the phone, at Verizon’s request.

The news was not well received by Android fans. They had hoped to see the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, the first smartphone released with Ice Cream 4.0, released onto the market with full functionality.

A representative of Google revealed to CNET that Verizon requested the feature be disabled in the product. However, whether this request is related to Isis, a joint venture between Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile USA, and AT&T, or not is still mere speculation. The trio of carriers announced Isis last Summer as their new mobile payments company, but Google beat them to the punch. +Continue Reading

The overall layout is sophisticated with the activity feed dominating the page in the center, a navigation bar on the left, and a nice stream of recommended videos on the right. The recommended videos are chosen through a complex algorithm that takes all of your current subscriptions and also factors in what videos you have watched recently – what comes out is a nice tailored list of videos that will likely catch your fancy and keep you browsing through YouTube from video to video for hours. +Continue Reading

Take a look inside Google’s Subtle Censorship

Google SearchThe Google search engine has a unique auto complete feature so that users can see the top searched topics as they are typing in their own search query. Unfortunately Google has been slowly censoring this auto complete feature for piracy-related terms since January of this year.

In January only a few terms were censored but here recently they overhauled their blacklist and it now includes almost all of the file sharing websites. Now, when searching for terms such as ‘torrent’, ‘RapidShare’ and even ‘BitTorrent’, you will notice that absolutely no auto complete results pop up to save your fingers from typing in the rest of your query. +Continue Reading
