WikiLeaks backers fight to keep their Twitter information from prosecutors

WikiLeaksMany people heard of Bradley E. Manning, a United States Army Soldier, who was arrested back in May of 2010 for passing classified military information to Wikileaks. He had a total of 22 charges laid against him because he released information that he had downloaded from SIPRNet (Secret Internet Protocol Router Network). This information was on a variety of sensitive topics such as Afghan war documents, Iraq War documents, Reykjavik13, and even a video now known as the Collateral Murder video. All in all over 251,287 U.S state department cables were filtered through Assange to Wikileaks.

After leaking the massive amount of information Bradley E. Manning was subsequently discharged and then detained – now awaiting trial for over 22 different charges but the United States government doesn’t stop there. On top of prosecuting Manning, they are also going after several WikiLeaks backers who had helped Manning. +Continue Reading

Google + is gaining 625,000 users each day

Google PlusThe social media market is completely saturated with Facebook to the point that there really is no room for other social media sites….or is there? When Google + first came out many were skeptical about it; of course Google + had that heavyweight name behind it, but Facebook was, well, Facebook.  Facebook beat out MySpace, FourSquare, and tons of other social media sites that are now unheard of. So when Google + first emerged, many were sure that it was destined for failure.

There were strong supporters of Google + but many more who predicted its imminent doom. With its initial struggle many thought that it would take a nose dive, but new information shows that it is doing better than those naysayers thought! +Continue Reading

Let’s show everyone that we are against SOPA

SOPA DENIEDThe continued outrage for SOPA was only fueled when protesters saw multiple companies not only complying with the bill but actually listing their support for it. These companies are not thinking about how devastating this act will be if it passes, they are not sympathetic to the fact that this act will enable the government and other private parties the ability to bypass the due process and effectively decimate any site accused of copyright infringement. SOPA will forever change how you use the Internet and it will have lasting effects. Fortunately a lot of important companies are against SOPA: AOL, eBay(+PayPal), Facebook, Google, GoDaddy, LinkedIn, Mozilla, Reddit, Torrentfreak, Tumblr, Twitter, TechCrunch, ESET, 4chan, HostGator, Yahoo!, Wikipedia, Kaspersky, Craiglist and The Huffington Post.

So what is SOPA exactly? +Continue Reading

Facebook was the Most Searched US Term in 2011

Facebook SearchOut of the 1,000 top search terms throughout this past year, Facebook was #1 in the U.S. It is the third year running, and a 46% increase over 2010, coming in at 3.10% of all searches for 2011. If you include variations on the term facebook that occurred in the top 10, the percentage is 4.42, and is only a 24% increase over the 2010 results.

Youtube jumped from third to second between 2010 and 2011. Facebook login followed in third place. Fourth was craiglist, followed by facebook.com.

Clearly, social networking phrases were most dominant for 2011, as could be seen by their piece of the pie: 4.18 percent of the total 50 top search terms, a 12 percent increase over 2010. +Continue Reading

Justice Department finally reversed opposition on Internet Gambling

Online GamblingOnline gambling was proposed years ago when the states realized the potential of more revenue without having to raise taxes. It seemed like the logical step for gambling and the lottery because the Internet is (and was even back then) the largest and fastest growing marketplace. With states in dire need of more money, the proposal seemed to be their answer however the United States Justice Department ruled against the proposal.

Years later the Justice Department has finally reversed their decision. Apparently their legal opinion was issued in September but it wasn’t made public until the 23rd of December. This was in response to several requests by the states of New York and Illinois to clarify an act from 1961 called the Wire Act. +Continue Reading
