LG Nitro HD comes with a 1.5 Ghz dual-core CPU, LTE and 720p Display

LG is far from the top of anyone’s list when it comes to great smartphone companies. It has been a long time since they have done anything noteworthy with phones. Now the company wants to re-invent itself by designing and releasing the Nitro HD.

LG has not put itself on the line with a new smartphone flagship product in such a long time. Yet, they are taking the risk to try to re-enter the market with a bit of a punch this time, in the form of the Nitro HD smartphone.

The Nitro HD sells for $249.99, when a contract is signed. This is a rarity among phones. It is AT&T’s first phone equipped with a 720p display. It is also among the only three phones in the world that can utilize the AT&T LTE network. That having been said, the specs are more than adequate, but the phone itself really required more care before releasing on the public. +Continue Reading

iPhone could become FBI’s newest partner against crime

iPhone and FBIThe next police officer who has you in his clutches might be intimidating you with his new iPhone, in addition to his terrifying pen and pad. Law enforcement are increasingly relying on iPhone to match fingerprints. The FBI are also jumping on the bandwagon. They will be utilizing the touchscreen technology of the iPhone to locate terrorist suspects.

Every minute is critical when catching a criminal. The iPhone will condense the time required by law enforcement in matching fingerprints up against the national database, according to the president of Fulcrum Technologies. At Fulcrum, the mobileOne is an example of one of their biometric products that relies on the iPhone. +Continue Reading

Verizon’s Galaxy Nexus Phone will lack Google Wallet

Verizon Google Galaxy NexusVerizon is blocking Google from the carrier’s version of the Galaxy Nexus, set to be released next week in US. Although Google assisted Samsung in the phone’s development, the search engine giant’s mobile payment system will not be functional on Verizon’s version of the phone, at Verizon’s request.

The news was not well received by Android fans. They had hoped to see the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, the first smartphone released with Ice Cream 4.0, released onto the market with full functionality.

A representative of Google revealed to CNET that Verizon requested the feature be disabled in the product. However, whether this request is related to Isis, a joint venture between Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile USA, and AT&T, or not is still mere speculation. The trio of carriers announced Isis last Summer as their new mobile payments company, but Google beat them to the punch. +Continue Reading

Wiretapping lawsuit against Phone manufacturers

WiretappingMillions of Americans were tapped secretly by a nefarious software company, and with the aid of Samsung and HTC. The controversy is a tornado twisting about Carrier IQ. This company loaded tracking software on consumers’ mobile phones, which has sparked two lawsuits to start with.

The plaintiffs filed the suit on Thursday against Carrier IQ, Samsung, and HTC, claiming the companies failed to adhere to a federal statute banning wiretapping.

Hundreds of millions of dollars are being sought through the class action lawsuits. The plaintiffs filed them in the Chicago and St. Louis courts to win restitution for Americans whose phones had been loaded with the software in question. The basis for these suits is the Federal Wiretap Act. The penalty is $100 daily for each count, violating the ban on “intercepting oral, wire and electronic communications.” +Continue Reading

Global Surveillance methods revealed by Wikileaks

Wikileaks Spy FilesGovernments tracking your phone, tapping in and listening to your every call, and even being able to read your messages is something that many people believe impossible and ‘crazy talk’. Governments wouldn’t do that, would they? And if they did how could a secret so huge be covered up? Why wouldn’t anyone hear about it? How could it happen?

The disbelief about global surveillance and government’s tracking phones and using them to essentially spy on civilians used to be a myth, however Julian Assange provided citizens with hundreds of official papers disproving that belief.

Julian Assange is the founder of the popular whistleblowing organization known as Wikileaks and he revealed this shocking leak on December 1, 2011. According to the leak provided to Assange, 150 private sector organizations in over 25 different countries have the power to not only track phones and other mobile devices, but also to listen to calls and much more. +Continue Reading

Motorola Atrix 2, the next logical step after Atrix 4G

Motorola Atrix 2The all new Motorola Atrix 2 has been recently launched by AT&T for just $99.00 along with their service contracts. It is an Android powered phone(Gingerbread), very much like its previous version, the Atrix 4G. The $99.00 pricing suggests that this device is created for basic smartphone utilities, rater than as a high end device.

The Atrix 2 has more of a businesslike demeanor, as it has nothing too flashy about it. However, there are a few changes made from the original Atrix to give it an elegant look. The screen size is 4.3 inches which is considerably bigger than the new iPhone 4. The front part is made of complete glass that edges all around the corners. Unlike the popular bright chrome sides that we see on most of the phones these days, the sides of this phone have a dark, silvery metal rim. The parts don’t appear to be expensive but that is quite understandable according to the pricing of the phone. It is more businesslike than glamorous. +Continue Reading

Although it has great specs, HTC Vivid is still unconvincing

HTC VividThe HTC Vivid is a bulky phone, which is the first impression when it plops into your hands out of the box. It is no feather-weight at 176 grams (6.24 ounces). The thickness is similar to some of the newest notebooks, at 11.2mm (0.44 inches). There is no good reason for the bulk, either. Try to figure it out as you may, you will end up without excuse.

Compare this bulk to the promise made by Ralph de la Vega at CTIA this year. He swore AT&T LTE phones would be both thinner and longer lasting. Of course, he could only have been referring to the Galaxy S II.

The performance of the HTC is similarly disappointing. When compared against the Galaxy SII Skyrocket and the Droid RAZR, Vivid took last place in everything. You might be asking yourself how that can be, with the dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon APQ8060 powering the phone. Perhaps the blame can be laid on the qHD pixels and Sense. +Continue Reading
